Honorable Mention She Isn’t Broken Kathy Paupore They say God never gives you anything that you can't handle; you must be strong He sent you this special angel for a reason. They comfort with words to give strength, to ease pain. None of it holds you up. Repeated phrases pile up to add weight. They say too much, assume too much, try too hard, or don't try at all. They fall away, lose touch, fade, afraid to feel. Uncomfortable with tears, with sorrow, they don't say it's okay to grieve. There is much to fear from the keening wail of loss. No one should say, "I'm sorry this happened to you." They don't know that she is more like any child than she is like Down syndrome. |
